What Are Cambridge English Qualifications?
Cambridge English Qualifications are internationally recognised English language certifications developed by Cambridge Assessment English — part of the University of Cambridge. Unlike IELTS or TOEFL, Cambridge qualifications are not time-limited proficiency tests. They are permanent credentials that demonstrate a level of English ability on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) scale.
There are three main qualifications most candidates pursue: B2 First (FCE) — demonstrating upper-intermediate English ability; C1 Advanced (CAE) — demonstrating advanced English suitable for professional and academic contexts; and C2 Proficiency (CPE) — demonstrating mastery-level English, the highest qualification Cambridge offers.
These qualifications never expire. A Cambridge C1 Advanced certificate earned in 2026 is just as valid in 2046. This makes them an exceptional long-term investment — particularly for professionals, educators, and those who need to demonstrate English ability repeatedly over the course of a career.
